Untitled 2

This painting deals with the harmony and chaos in nature and is the start of my working from the paper towards me - instead of the other way round. The shapes were mapped out quickly and the creatures were then pulled from the paper into reality. For me, this piece is forced to exist in a state of harmony due to the mere fact that the organisms cannot simply up and fly away. They are forced to coincide. It was interesting for me to see just how much mayhem I could paint onto one page whilst still keeping with the natural rhythm of nature.. 51cm x 55cm watercolour on paper

This piece is one of my art teacher's favourites (which is an amazing concept to me as it is more of a sketch than anything else), but then art is an incredibly difficult thing to judge and if I'm honest, this approach to painting is something I might be interested in working on - the freedom to allow the brush choose the motif... 24cm x 30cm watercolour on paper

Feast

This is another one in my series of paintings that involve insects which carry out and reflect the social norms and behaviours of human beings. This painting is called "feast" and portrays what I would consider a typical party scene. I specifically separated the winged insects from the bugs and so this piece deals with ingroup/outgroup behaviour. Can differing cultures really mix? Are not the little "clicks" of people at parties drawn together based on some psychosocial magnetic force? ... 85cm x 65cm oil on canvas
